Hearing the Voice of God

At the heart of this message lies one of the most profound promises in Scripture: 'My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me' from John 10:26-30. This isn't just a nice sentiment—it's our spiritual birthright as believers. Just as a newborn child instinctively recognizes their parent's voice without training or education, we are designed to hear and recognize the voice of our Heavenly Father. The sermon explores how the Holy Spirit makes Scripture come alive, transforming familiar passages into personal, life-changing encounters. Consider Psalm 91:1—'He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.' We might read this verse a hundred times, but suddenly one day, the Spirit illuminates it differently. We realize it's not just poetry; it's a promise that our intimacy with God guarantees His manifest presence in our lives. The message also highlights the shift in Psalm 23, where David moves from talking about God ('He leads me') to talking to God ('You are with me'). This progression shows us that worship and meditation on God's character naturally draws us into His presence. We're invited into a daily encounter with Jesus—not just Sunday experiences, but moment-by-moment communion. Seven key scriptures are presented as anchors for hearing God's voice: promises of guidance, intimacy, revelation of hidden things, and the Holy Spirit's role as our constant companion and guide. The challenge before us is clear: Will we believe that hearing from God is not reserved for spiritual elites, but is the normal Christian life available to every believer?
